Beloved

Even though Beloved caused so much trouble amongst everyone, in the end she helped people realize things. Beloved's departure helped Paul D. Realize how much he really did care for Sethe. He questions why he left Sethe before. Do you think Beloved's manipulation of Paul D. was intentionally for Paul D. to come to the realization of his deep feelings for Sethe? I wonder why Denver feels as though Beloved was more to her than a sister. How can something so secret and strange make people believe in being real?

Was anyone else a little confused with this own image of Beloved? She all of sudden disappears and no one can really recall anything she did or said. It is kind of strange.

Beloved 2

Morrison loves to throw curve balls int his novel. Who would have thought that Paul D would have sex with Beloved. As ra reader I thought that he had strong feelings for Sethe. Beloved's character is very strange for a reader. She has this power over everyone and anything. It didn't seem as though Paul wanted to have sex with her but she some how manipulated him into doing it. Her needy and wanting feelings does not show that she cares for Paul but just wants to be wanted by someone. Beloved seems to have a hold on many people and make them cling. Denver gets caught in Beloved force field. What I don't understand and am confused about is why are these people believing that this supposely dead girl is alive?

I am finding this book that I heard was very good to be very strange and confusing. I hope to figure out alittle more about what is going on through discussion in class, maybe it will have a new look ont he novel.
